Wusul ("we", "us") is a Muslim audience intelligence company operating at wusul.io. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it.

What we collect, and why

Newsletter subscription. If you subscribe to our newsletter we collect your email address, and your name if you give it. We use it to send you our newsletter and occasional insights. Subscriptions are managed through Ghost, our publishing platform, and emails are delivered by Mailgun.

Contact form and report requests. If you contact us or request a report we collect your name, email address, organisation, and your message. We use this to reply to you and, where you asked for a report, to send it to you when it is published. These submissions pass through Cloudflare and are delivered to our team email.

Booking a call. If you book a call, scheduling is handled by Cal.com, which collects the details you enter there. Cal.com's own privacy policy applies to that processing.

Technical data. Our site is served through Cloudflare, which processes IP addresses and request data in order to deliver and secure the site.

Zakat calculator

Your figures. The zakat calculator works in your browser. The figures you enter, your conversation with Noor and your giving plan are saved in your browser's local storage so they are there when you come back. They are not sent to us when you use the form. You can remove them at any time with "Forget my figures on this device" or by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Noor, the AI assistant. If you chat with Noor, your messages and the figures currently in the calculator are sent through our Cloudflare server to Google's Gemini API (Google LLC, USA), which acts as our processor, so that it can reply. We do not store your messages. Under Google's paid-service terms, Google may keep them for a limited period to detect misuse and does not use them to train its models. Transfers to the US rely on the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Voice notes: if you record a voice note instead of typing, the recording is sent to our Cloudflare server, where Cloudflare Workers AI (Whisper) turns it into text. The recording is not stored, and it is never sent to Google; only the text is passed to Gemini as above. Noor shows you the text and what she understood so you can correct it. Noor is an AI assistant, not a scholar, and can make mistakes. To prevent abuse we keep daily message counters, for 48 hours, keyed by a one-way hash of your IP address (if you are not signed in) or of your email (if you are).

Your free account. If you create a free account from the calculator we keep your name, your email and a note that you joined through the zakat calculator. Because this may indicate your religion, we process it only with your explicit consent (UK GDPR Articles 6(1)(a) and 9(2)(a)), which you give by ticking the box on the sign-up form. We use it only to send your sign-in links and to run your account, and to send our newsletter only if you ticked that box too. We never use it for audience research or advertising, and we never share it with charities, clients or anyone else except Ghost (hosting) and Mailgun (email delivery). You can withdraw consent and delete your account at any time by emailing [email protected]; we keep it until you do.

Usage statistics. To improve the calculator we record de-identified statistics for each visit under a random id that exists only while the page is open: the currency, the size band of the result, the methods chosen, the features used and which listed charities you clicked through to. No name, email, IP address, cookie or exact figure is stored. We keep these for 13 months, on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving the tool. If you reject analytics in our cookie banner, nothing is recorded.

Charity links. Charities are listed by the income they report to regulators. Clicking a link takes you to the charity's own website, where its privacy policy applies. Wusul is not a charity and does not collect donations.

Giving Intelligence

Our connector for AI assistants. Wusul Giving Intelligence (wusul.io/mcp) lets AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT read Wusul's public data. We never see your conversation with your assistant: we only receive the request it sends to one of our tools, such as a market, a year or search words, and use it to answer. We do not store those requests. We keep a daily count of how often each tool is used, with no IP address and nothing from the request. Like the rest of the site, requests pass through Cloudflare. Your conversation itself is governed by your AI provider's own privacy policy.

Messages through the connector. If you ask your assistant to send a message to Wusul, the name, email, organisation and message it sends are emailed to our team, exactly as if you had used our contact form, and handled as described above.

Itqan

The fundraising maturity assessment. Your answers to the Itqan assessment (wusul.io/itqan) are saved in your browser so you can come back to them, and are not sent to us while you take it. If you ask for the full report, we email it to the address you give as a PDF, through Mailgun, and we receive your name, work email, organisation, your answers about your charity's market and size, and your scores, so we can follow up about your results. We process these on the basis of your consent, given by ticking the box, and keep them as part of our correspondence; you can ask us to delete them at any time.

The benchmark. Only if you tick that box, we also store your scores, your answer levels and your market and size band, with no name, email, organisation, IP address or cookie, for up to three years, to publish anonymised benchmarks of the sector. These records cannot be linked back to you or your organisation.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Tag Manager to load Google Analytics so we can understand how visitors use the site: which pages are read, how people arrive, and what is not working. This is measurement only. We do not sell your data and we do not run advertising retargeting.

These analytics cookies are not loaded until you accept them. When you first visit, a banner asks for your choice, and until you accept, analytics and advertising storage stay switched off. Essential cookies needed to make the site work are always active.

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time by clearing this site's cookies in your browser, which will make the banner appear again on your next visit. You can also block cookies entirely in your browser settings.

We process your data on the basis of your consent, for the newsletter, report requests and analytics cookies, and on our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries you choose to send us.

How long we keep it

Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe. Enquiry emails are kept for as long as we need them to handle your request and to keep a record of our correspondence. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.

Sharing

We do not sell your data. We share it only with the service providers needed to run this site: our hosting provider, Mailgun for email delivery, Cloudflare for security and delivery, Google for analytics, and Cal.com for scheduling. Each acts under its own data protection commitments. Some of these providers may process data outside the UK or EU under appropriate safeguards.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link. To exercise any right, email [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
