Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on **Monday 8 February 2027**. From today that is about 120 days. For a charity that raises much of its year in Ramadan, or a brand that wants to be part of it, the decisions that decide the result are made now, not in February.

This is the calendar we use with our own clients. It has the dates for the UK and the US, what each season means for giving, and the planning timeline that works back from the first night. The live version, with a countdown and the date for each market, is on our [Islamic calendar](https://wusul.io/calendar/) page, and it updates itself every day.

Dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar. Islamic months begin with the new crescent moon, so any date can move by a day once the moon is sighted.

## Why the UK may split and the US will not

Both countries see the same moon. They do not get the same announcement.

**In the United States**, the Fiqh Council of North America sets Ramadan by astronomical calculation, years in advance. Ramadan 2027 begins on Monday 8 February, and Eid al-Fitr is on Tuesday 9 March. Some mosques that wait for a local sighting may start a day later.

**In the United Kingdom**, there is no single authority. Mosques that follow Saudi Arabia usually start on the earlier date. Those that follow a local sighting, or Morocco, may start a day later. So Ramadan 2027 in the UK is expected on Monday 8 or Tuesday 9 February, and Eid al-Fitr on Tuesday 9 or Wednesday 10 March. For a campaign, that means two things: never schedule a "first night of Ramadan" message to land at one fixed time for every UK donor, and have both Eid creatives ready.

## The demand curve: what search tells us

Search volume is the clearest public signal of when Muslim audiences start planning. Using Google search data for the UK and the US, three patterns stand out.

- **People plan Ramadan months ahead.** Searches for "ramadan 2027" reached about 110,000 in August 2026 in the UK, and the same in the US, six months before the month begins. Average monthly demand is already 33,100 in each country.
- **Zakat demand peaks inside Ramadan, and it peaks hard.** Searches for "zakat calculator" in the UK went from about 2,400 a month in the summer to 74,000 in March 2026, the month that held the last ten nights of Ramadan 2026\. That is a thirtyfold jump. In the US the peak was 49,500.
- **Charity searches follow the same rhythm.** UK searches for "muslim charities" run at about 2,900 a month most of the year and reached 12,100 in March 2026.

The lesson is simple. Donors are researching long before they give, and the moment they decide is concentrated into a few weeks. A charity that appears for the first time in the last ten nights is competing for attention at its most expensive.

## Each season is a different product

Treating the Islamic year as "Ramadan plus a quiet eleven months" leaves most of the year's giving on the table. Each moment has its own donor, motive and message.

### Rajab and Sha'ban (December 2026 and January 2027)

The run-up. Rajab is one of the four sacred months, and Sha'ban is traditionally a time of preparation. This is where donor reactivation, Zakat education and regular-giving offers do their best work, because the audience is thinking about Ramadan but not yet saturated by appeals.

### The first twenty days of Ramadan (8 to 27 February)

Sadaqah, iftar and food appeals, and the daily giving schemes that split a gift across every night. Retention starts here: a donor who signs up to give every night is a donor you have for the whole month.

### The last ten nights (from the evening of 27 February)

The peak. Many donors give every night in the hope of reaching Laylat al-Qadr, and many pay their Zakat in this window. The odd nights, and especially the 27th night on the evening of Friday 5 March, carry the most intent.

### Eid al-Fitr and Zakat al-Fitr (by 9 March)

Zakat al-Fitr is due before the Eid prayer, and it is a small, fixed amount per person, which makes it one of the easiest asks of the year. Gift and family messaging dominates Eid itself.

### Dhul Hijjah and Qurbani (7 to 16 May)

Qurbani is a different purchase from Sadaqah: a defined product, with a price, a country and a deadline. The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are among the most valued days of the year for good deeds, and they are often under-used outside Qurbani. We wrote about why in [the unique psychology of Qurbani giving](https://wusul.io/insights/the-unique-psychology-of-qurbani-giving/).

### Muharram and the new year (from 6 June)

The Islamic New Year begins on Sunday 6 June 2027, and Ashura falls about ten days later. Muharram is a sacred month and a natural moment for reflection and renewal, and almost nobody is fundraising in it. See [Muharram: an underused moment for giving](https://wusul.io/insights/muharram-a-sacred-month-and-an-underused-moment-for-giving/).

## Ramadan is moving into the year-end

The Islamic year is about eleven days shorter than the Gregorian year, so Ramadan arrives about eleven days earlier every year. That moves it steadily towards the busiest giving season in the Western calendar.

| Ramadan | Expected start |
| ------- | ------------------------- |
| 1448 | Monday 8 February 2027 |
| 1449 | Friday 28 January 2028 |
| 1450 | Tuesday 16 January 2029 |
| 1451 | Saturday 5 January 2030 |
| 1452 | Thursday 26 December 2030 |

In 2030 there will be two Ramadans in one Gregorian year, and the second will overlap Christmas and the US year-end giving season, when nonprofit inboxes and ad auctions are at their most crowded. Charities that build year-round donor relationships now will be in a far stronger position than those that still plan Ramadan from scratch every winter. Year-on-year comparisons also have to follow the Hijri calendar: comparing February 2027 with February 2026 compares Ramadan with the weeks before it.

## A planning timeline for Ramadan 2027

- **October 2026: strategy and data.** Review last Ramadan by night and by channel, clean the donor file, check consent, and set targets for new donors, regular givers and Zakat. Take [Itqan](https://wusul.io/itqan/), our free fundraising maturity assessment, to see where the gaps are.
- **November: audiences and offers.** Build segments (lapsed Ramadan givers, Zakat payers, monthly donors, last-ten-nights givers), agree the core appeals, and brief creative. Book influencer and community partners now; many are booked by December.
- **December (Rajab): creative and tracking.** Produce and test creative in each language you need, set up tracking from ad to donation, and load your audiences into each ad platform.
- **January (Sha'ban): warm-up.** Zakat education, reactivation emails and a soft launch of night-by-night giving. Test, then move budget to what works.
- **8 February to 9 March: run and adapt.** Report daily, shift budget between nights, and plan the second gift for every new donor before Eid.
- **After Eid: retention.** Thank every donor within 48 hours, invite new donors to give again within 90 days, and start the Qurbani plan for May.
